I was writing an album.

My universe was collapsing. I had permission to shut out the world and never return.

I remember the tall blue bridge looking over Manhattan. Whispering to myself,

“One day. One day I’m gonna shine over THERE.”

The Empire State Building sparkled. Night had fallen.

Today, I stare back.

Five years older. Feeling decades wiser. Exhausted. Spent. At peace.

I know there’s a version of me across the river. With frizzy bleached hair. Wearing a mask.

I sit there. Watching. Listening.

A father tells his son, “Life is about learning how to shut the world out.” But what if it’s not?

What if it’s time to open up again?

A horn blares south bound. It’s time.
